Fall is quickly becoming my favorite season, guys! I've always been such a fan of fall fashion with it's lux color choices, the layering, and of course, pouring over the all of the September magazine issues. This year, it seems like everywhere you turn, there's denim or 70s inspired style in the stores in the magazines, or online, so I was thrilled when I found a ton of denim fabric at Goodwill for $5.99.
I wasn't sure how or when I was going to use the denim material so it wasn't until I was flipping through my crazy collection of September issue magazines (it's a problem, for sure) and my pattern collection that I decided The Freya Dress would be the perfect combo. The Freya Dress is a great transition piece for fall because you can wear it as a summer dress, layered, dressed up, or down. There's so much versatility to the design of this dress. And, it's really easy to sew as well. Speaking of sewing this dress together, let's talk about the construction of this garment!
The pattern is really straightforward and easy to follow. In fact, this sewed together must faster than I originally anticipated and was able to finish it up in a couple of nights. The only thing that I didn't like about this pattern was that the actual measurement for the waist and bust wasn't included which made it hard for me to gauge my true size. With the major pattern companies I am between a size 6 and 8. Lately, a size 6 more than an 8 so I made an educated guess to go with the 6 which is a bit snug on me. Initially, I found the sizing to be disappointing because I was lazy and cut my pattern instead of tracing so I couldn't easily go back and start over with a size 8. Despite cutting the wrong size, I've actually come to really like the overall fit of the size 6. In fact, this won't be the last time you see something from me with this pattern. I already have another version in mind that I literally. cannot. wait. to. sew. and. share. with. you. guys!! Can you see the excitement!? There are just so many options for this dress!
Well, that's a wrap guys! I'll be back next week. Until then, I'll be rocking out to Miley Cyrus' Younger Now and eagerly anticipating her new album. Seriously. cannot. WAIT! 10 more days until non-stop Miley in the car.
