This week was another busy one and a lot of routine hopping for the Hugo bear which meant nap and sleepy time were all over the place. Getting anything done was a challenge. Hugo is definitely an active little boy and I am learning how to keep him engaged in activities as well as directing his energy so he doesn't become bored so easily. I think boredom could be a large fraction as to why he doesn't sleep through the night. This week we experimented with alternating an activity at home and then with an activity out of the house. My mom got him a Mickey Mouse calendar for Christmas and we write down our big or outside activities and talk about any events that are going to happen that day. I am also trying to rearrange our routine at home. We're so used to letting Hugo determine how the routine is going to be set and doing things around his nap or nighttime. Since he's getting older, I think that starting to do things while he's awake and letting him participate a little is going to be beneficial in keeping him engaged and learning. I think that I noticed he was ready for a shift in routine at home when he wanted to "help" do the dishes, got really excited to see the vacuum, and attacked the broom. haha. He's the cutest!
It's a little weird to think about transitioning him into a busier, toddler routine. I'm not ready to let go of infant Hugo which is probably why I saved all his flannel footie pajamas. I literally could not let them go. I've already cut them up for a project but I had a few scraps left of his moose footie pajamas. Those little moose feet were so cute that I couldn't get rid of the moose feet, either. Waaahh! I swear, even though I've been watching a ton of videos and documentaries about becoming a minimalist, I am becoming a Hugo-bear-clothing-hoarder. At least, I could repurpose those footie pajamas and feel less guilty about holding onto them. It's been pretty cold out and he doesn't usually wear mittens so now he has a pair of moose mittens!
If you love to refashion, repurpose, or - if you're like me and just want to feel less guilty about hoarding your little's outgrown clothing, here's a tutorial on how to turn those footie pajamas into mitts!
Materials:
1.) Fabric scissors
2.) Pins
3.) Mitten for template
4.) Pair of footie pajamas
Step 1:
Take the feet apart by seam ripping them. I didn't take a picture of this step because I took them off awhile ago when I was cutting the pajamas.
Step 2:Once you've seam ripped the feet of the pajamas, you will want to take any remaining material and use the mitten as a pattern. I simply laid the mitten over any piece of scrap that would fit, added about 1/4", and cut the pieces out. You will need to mirror your fabric to get one front facing and one back facing piece.
Step 4:
There are a couple of ways that you could go about this step. Just below the hem line, you could add elastic and sew along the elastic piece while pulling it tight. For whatever reason, my machine was not a fan and I ended up having to make a casing. It is a lot harder to make a casing with such a small project. After you've sewn the elastic, sew right sides together, 1'4" around the mitt, leaving the hand opening open. If you're doing the casing, just sew the right sides together and fold the hem down enough to fit the elastic, and sew the casing closed.
Step 5:
Turn them inside out and enjoy!
